Many libraries have a section set aside for genealogical research. Many of the reference resources in this section will contain information about a person such as death and are open to the public.

Records of the death of people are available to the public, but the key is in knowing where to look for them. There are a variety of sources open to viewing, but only the governmental agencies can certify death records.
